Academic Advising Council

The University Advising Council exists to (1) serve as a repository of knowledge regarding advising processes and policy; (2) serve as forum for academic units to express needs in advising and provide direction to advising campus-wide; (3) provide support to academic advising units/ departments and academic advisors; (4) to guide/review/recommend policy creation (in consultation with academic departments) and revision related to or affecting the academic and career advising process at Boise State University; and (5) to encourage regular assessment of academic and career advising.
The Council is chaired by the Director of Advising and Academic Enhancement and consists of members from each college, Institutional Assessment, the Career Center, Enrollment Services, Extended Studies, and the Registrar’s Office to ensure all entities involved in advising services and affected by advising processes have input. Members are expected to be actively engaged in the advising process within their own representative areas, bringing needs/concerns/issues forward to the Advising Council.
Support provided to academic units includes:
- Review of institutional best practices
- Development and distribution of resource materials
- Training and development opportunities for advisors
- Providing tools for assessment of programs and individual advisors
The Council has sufficient authority to aid all academic units in maintaining/improving the delivery of their advising systems in order to ensure effective advising campus-wide.
