Advising Topics

Recommended times to meet with your academic advisor and topics to review each semester.

During the first week of class:

• Determine how present classes satisfy CORE/General Education Requirements
• Identify semester goals
• Evaluate class syllabi and your confidence in managing academic expectations

Prior to mid-term exams or first exams of the semester:

• Discuss your academic progress to date
• Identify academic assistance needed.

After you receive mid-term grades or grades on first exams of the semester:

• Evaluate your satisfaction with grades received
• Identify academic assistance needed for semester duration

To determine plan for the next semester:

• Determine current semester progress
• Identify courses which apply to major(s) and minor(s)

At the end of semester:

• Discuss expectations of the semester (Were they accurate?)
• Reevaluate personal and academic goals for the next semester

During all advising sessions, you should address major and career directives. Remember, advisors are experts in their respective fields.
