Advising Topics
Recommended times to meet with your academic advisor and topics to review each semester.
During the first week of class:
- Determine how present classes satisfy CORE/General Education Requirements
- Identify semester goals
- Evaluate class syllabi and your confidence in managing academic expectations
Prior to mid-term exams or first exams of the semester:
- Discuss your academic progress to date
- Identify academic assistance needed.
After you receive mid-term grades or grades on first exams of the semester:
- Evaluate your satisfaction with grades received
- Identify academic assistance needed for semester duration
To determine plan for the next semester:
- Determine current semester progress
- Identify courses which apply to major(s) and minor(s)
At the end of semester:
- Discuss expectations of the semester (Were they accurate?)
- Reevaluate personal and academic goals for the next semester
During all advising sessions, you should address major and career directives. Remember, advisors are experts in their respective fields.
